Welcome once again to the members newsletter and it’s the first one of a new year. We hope you all had a nice relaxing Christmas and New Year, New Year’s Eve was banging in the clubhouse, though the less said about the Karaoke the better.
It is a shorter than usual newsletter this month which hopefully means fewer typos…but I can’t guarantee that.
Football Update
Once again we’ve been somewhat hampered by the weather of late, with the Northumberland Senior Cup Quarter Final against Ashington feeling like it has been postponed about a dozen times, but it will finally take place tonight, so get yourself along and give the lads your support.
Of the matches that did take place, following a superb win away at Sunderland RCA on the 3rd December we had to wait until the 4th of January for the next game that took place in which we saw off a tough Guisborough side 2-0 at home.
We then had a spate of postponements (shock horror) until the 13th when a strong Stan Army contingent travelled to West Auckland and after another very spirited performance we came home all 3 points at putting 3 goals Auckland to their 2.
In an unusual moment, another postponement followed which brings us up to date.
In Heaton Stan A world a very strong performance from Russ’s youngsters saw them so close to knocked a good Newcastle Blue Star side out of the league Cup. A late equaliser took it to penalties where Blue Star prevailed 5-3.
Warm Hub
We are still running a Warm Hub in the clubhouse every Tuesday from 12-3. It’s open to everyone so please come along if you want too. It’s completely free to use so even if you just want to pop in for a hot drink and a natter you’re more than welcome, see below for more details.
Juniors Open Evening
Unfortunately we have had to postpone the opening evening but if you are interested in coaching a Junior side in the 2023/24 season or simply wanting more information on the Juniors to get in touch with Neil via email neil.drummond@hotmail.com
Volunteers
We have a record number of volunteers currently but one area where we are lacking a little is on the bar. We have a rota we pull together for each month and have lost one or two volunteers of late so we need a bit of help filling it.
Saturday nights seem to be where we need the most help so if you fancy your chances as a Bet Lynch or a Tom Cruise, please put your name forward to any of the committee or bar staff.
Overkill Sale
Due to a number of games being postponed we have an overstock of the ever popular Overkill cans.
If you would like to buy some please contact George on Treasurerheatonstan@gmail.com cash only.
On that note I shall leave you to enjoy the rest of your day, hope to see you later at the ground for the big match.
