Hello and welcome to this month’s newsletter. This is a cross over newsletter as it will be the last one going to 2021 members and the first one to 2022 members, so some of you will get it twice, no it’s not an error so you can stop shouting “One Job”, Mr Lyndon. I hope it finds you well and you’ve been enjoying the unusually warm weather we’ve been having. Thankfully it’s due to tip it down this week which is good news for the pitch with upcoming fixtures. More on that later.
Stan Can Van
As you will know most match days we have a very busy bar and very busy bar staff. To help with this we have invested in a Stan Can Van. You may have seen it parked in the car park, well we made an approach to the owner and he was only to happy to sell it to us.
It’s had some nice Stan based branding applied and George, John and Bill have been doing a roaring trade in there. It’s gone done a storm at the matches and has hugely helped to ease the pressure on the bar, so it’s a good investment all round.
Football Update
The first team have now started their first season as a 1st Division club. we are 4 games in and after drawing at home against West Auckland, we suffered a midweek defeat at home to Penrith.
The following Saturday the lads put in a tremendous shift to see off Pickering Town in the Extra Preliminary round of the FA Cup. The next round takes place this Saturday at Grounsell Park when we welcome North Ferriby. It would be great to see as many of the Stan Army there as possible.
Last week started with a very well earned away at Seaham Red Star and on Saturday the lads were very unlucky not to get anything after losing to Whickham by a penalty. The second half was a superb performance and a very appreciative set of supporters gave the lads a standing ovation as they left the field.
August is a very busy month for home games and we’re approaching the half way mark. After the FA Cup game on Saturday we’re back in league action and back on the road when we visit Crook Town.
Three days later we’re back at Grounsell Pak and back in league action against Thornaby before we close the month out on the 31st when we welcome Pickering Town back to GP.
The A teams season has also started with a certain amount of rebuilding in the squad, which has seen Russ bring in a fair few players from Heaton Hawks. After starting the season with draws against Ellington and Newcastle University A the lads travelled up to North Sunderland on Saturday and brought the points home with them after an excellent 5-2 reversal.
Caring Hands
The pre-season game against Alnwick was chosen as our annual charity game. On the day we raised a total of £600 pound which as well as he gate receipts for the day a phenomenal amounts was raised through the bucket collection which was donated to Caring Hands who work across the city helping improve the quality of life for elderly and disabled people. Thank you to everyone who cam and donated.
