Welcome once again to your regular monthly update on all things Heaton Stannington. Get yourself settled with a nice brew and when you’re ready we’ll begin. Oh and yes we’re a day late, sorry about that.
Football Update
Our last update left off with us due to play Whitley Bay at home in the league. On the pitch the lads the lads put in a fantastic performance and thoroughly deserved to take all 3 points on the night but two very late goals gave victory to Bay. Off the pitch the night was a great success with over 800 people attending and the pizza van we had for the night doing a roaring trade.
The following weekend we made what over the last few seasons has proved to be one of the Stan Army’s favourite away days as we made the trip over to Carlisle City. It’s always a tough match at Gilford Park but in the recent past it’s been a happy hunting ground for us and it proved so once again as the Stan ran out 3-2 winners thanks once again to a very late winner.
Then the weather hit, after the torrential downpours that seemed to go on for ever we lost the away trip to Penrith and then the home match against Seaham Redstar, both have been rescheduled for March. To keep the lads match fitness up a friendly was quickly arranged to replace the Seaham game against Chester Le Street Town which a hardy bunch of fans attended, they were rewarded with a 7-0 victory and a very good performance.
The last match before I wrote this was on Saturday when a strong contingent of fans made the trip down to Redcar Athletic. I’ll not say too much about it as the match report, video of the goals and photos can all be found here, but it was a cracking day out and a superb result for the lads.
Saturday’s result moved us up to 9th, just 7 points off a play off spot with a game in hand at least on almost all the clubs above us,
The A team were also hit by the weather and had a game called off, but their match against Blyth Rangers at home in the Minor Cup did go ahead. The A team progressed to the next round after a very hard fought 2-0 win.
The following week the lads travelled to Ashington to take on Morpeth and brought the points back with them after a one goal win.
Pickering Away
We will be running one of our legendary coach tours for the match at Pickering on the 17th December, seats will go on sale tomorrow at £25 each.
We’ve had some great fun on the road this season as this promises to be a belter, so don’t miss out.
Warm Hub
We will be running a Warm Hub in the clubhouse every Tuesday from 12-3. It’s open to everyone so please come along if you want too. It’s completely free to use so even if you just want to pop in for a hot drink and a natter you’re more than welcome, see below for more details.
Heaton Stan Bottle Draw
You can now buy numbers for the annual Xmas bottle draw at just £1 per number . The number chart is on the door in the bar and money should be placed in the bucket provided.
The money raised will be used to purchase a range of bottles for the bottle draw evening, in addition to bottles donated. Heaton Stan are also making a contribution to the draw fund.
On Thursday 22nd December everyone is invited to the Club where winning numbers will be drawn and prizes claimed!
World Cup
As we now know England have progressed in the World Cup so we will be open on Sunday night for the next match. I’ve heard rumour there might be another curry in the offing, but don’t hold me to that.
It’s been a great success so far with fantastic turnouts at the club to watch the games. If you haven’t been so far do come along.
Juniors Open Evening
We are hosting an open evening on the 12th December, 7pm to 8pm at the clubhouse. Anyone interested in finding out more about out Juniors project is welcome to pop in for a coffee and a chat.
Volunteers
We have a record number of volunteers currently but one area where we are lacking a little is on the bar. We have a rota we pull together for each month and have lost one or two volunteers of late so we need a bit of help filling it.
Saturday nights seem to be where we need the most help so if you fancy your chances as a Bet Lynch or a Tom Cruise, please put your name forward to any of the committee of bar staff.
Programme Shop
We are now selling old programmes in the match day shop. If anyone has any old unwanted programmes from any club you can them to Kevin Mochrie at the raffle table at home games or speak to him to arrange collection.
On that note I will leave you in peace for another month. Enjoy Halloween and Bonfire night and don’t forget to come down and support the lads when you can, starting tonight.
Merchandise
Wirth Christmas just around the corner, yes I know, it flies by doesn’t it, but it’s true it’s less than a month away.
Anyway you might be sat there thinking of what to get for your stocking fillers, well as look would have it we have plenty of goodies in the club shop. See below for a few ideas. and visit here to see what else we have in stock.
