Hello, good afternoon and welcome and David Frost might have said, welcome to this month’s newsletter, I hope it finds you in good health. Now grab yourself a brew, or a Brown Ale, Davey and let us update you on what’s going on around the club.
Football Update
As I mentioned last month August was an incredibly busy month for the first team and after the Whickham game we fell to a narrow 1-2 defeat at home against Redcar Athletic, but followed that up with a thumping 4-1 against North Ferriby in the FA Cup. The following midweek a very strong Stan Army contingent headed over to Crook where we couldn’t quite bring the points home with us losing 1-0 despite being the better side for long periods of the match.
The following Saturday brought Thornaby to Grounsell Park who defeated the lads 0-3 in what even Thornaby agreed flattered them. Four days later though we were back to winning ways in style as a phenomenal second half performance saw us demolish Pickering Town 5-1 in the league.
On the 3rd September we travelled to Clitheroe in the next round of the FA Cup and the Stan Army went in numbers. The lads put in one of the performances of the season so far against higher opposition to bring Clitheroe back to Heaton on the following Wednesday and the lads again gave them a very good run for their money eventually go out 1-2. But both home and away we were applauded by Clitheroe for our friendliness and the excellent welcome we gave them on the visit here. Well done everyone.
The final game saw us down at Thornaby on Saturday where we took some revenge for our earlier defeat by taking the points by a single goal. We currently sit 3 places an 2 point clear of the relegation places but with games in hand of some clubs around us.
This Saturday we commence our FA Vase campaign against Campion from Bradford. It’s a 15:00 kick off and we need as many of you at Grounsell Park as possible, please come along and give the lads your support.
The A team were unfortunately knocked out of the cup by Whitley Bay Sporting, but in the league they recorded an excellent 4-2 win against Morpeth and a 4-0 win against Cullercoats U21’s continuing their brilliant start to the league season.
Northallerton Away Travel
We are pleased to confirm we are operating the legendary Stan Away Travel to Northallerton on Sat Oct 8th. It will be very kindly assisted by Matt and Vikki Wharton, better known to all as Manchester Stan who are very generously sponsoring the coach.
Hopefully it will be a coach this time and we don’t end up feeling like extras in Mutiny on the Buses again.
Tickets can be purchased here.
Stan Can Van
As you will remember from the last update or if you’ve been to the ground over recent matches we have invested in a Stan Can Van. George, Bill and John have been doing a tremendous job manning it and the impact on the queue at the clubhouse has been significant. The chaps thank you for you custom, keep using it and keep telling them your favourite beers so they can see if they can stock them for you.
Whisky Society Donation
Thanks to the Whisky Society who have donated £1000 to CHUF from the two recent tasking events they have done. This was possible due to the very kindly donated whiskies being tasted on the night.
Club Merchandise
There is still plenty of club merchandise available to buy in the online shop and there will now be a new merchandise stall on match days in the clubhouse. This will be manned by Belinda the latest recruit to our loyal band of volunteers.
AGM
Don’t forget, the AGM will be held on Thursday 29th of December at 19:oo. Below is a reminder of the agenda for the night.
On that note I shall wish you well, hope to see you all cheering the lads on on Saturday.
