Lewis Brass announces retirement

We can announce that goalkeeper Lewis Brass has announced his retirement from football with immediate effect.

Lewis joined the Stan in 2023, going on to make 77 appearances. He has been a huge part of the progress on the field in recent years, making some pivotal contributions in matches as part of our Northern League promotion winning side in 2023/24, and helping to secure the 2025 Northumberland Senior Cup with two penalty shoot-out saves at St. James’ Park. Off the field he has also been a big supporter of the Club, for example his company kindly sponsoring our away strip this season.

We are immensely grateful for his contributions and support and everyone at the Club sends our best wishes for the future!

Lewis has shared the following message:

“With a heavy heart, I’m announcing my retirement from football. My responsibility now lies solely with my business and my family, but I’ll always carry the game close to me.

I want to give a special mention to Dean, Andy, Tom, Scott, and James — the ones who brought me out of retirement three years ago and taught me how to love the game again. To the amazing fans, the Stan Army, thank you for your incredible support every step of the way.

During my time here, we created nothing but history, and I’m proud of everything we achieved together. I wish the club, the players, and everyone connected with Heaton Stannington nothing but the very best for the season ahead and for the future.”

Manager Dean Nicholson has also reflected on the news:

“I want to thank Lewis for every ounce of his effort over the last 3 years. Since he came to this club, he has been unbelievable.

We have created history together and I will be forever grateful for his performances and commitment to doing that.

I’m sure the two penalty saves at St. James’ Park will live forever in the hearts of the Stan Army and we will always thank Lewis for that.

Good luck for the future.”

Brassy’s Best Bits

Storey signs for the Stan

Heaton Stannington are delighted to announce the signing of young forward Max Storey.

The 19-year-old joins from Hartlepool United where he was a scholar since the age of 16, before turning professional at the start of last season. Max’s first foray into football was with Newcastle United’s academy aged 9. Last season Max spent time out on loan at Blyth Spartans and West Auckland Town.

Max can play on either wing and in his own words, he’s “a technical player who likes to receive the ball in pockets, trying to make things happen, with goals, assists and chances.”

Upon signing for the club, Max said: “I’m really happy to sign for Heaton Stannington. I think it’s a great club with lots of potential. I’ve had some really good chats with Dean and Andy about their plans for the club and it all seems really positive and exciting.”

Manager Dean Nicholson said: “Max comes with hunger and good pedigree. He has tons of potential and has already shown that he can score goals and help us in the final third. I’m excited to see Max get going and I’m sure the fans will be excited too.”

Transfer News – Alfie Marriott signs on loan

The Stan are delighted to have secured defender Alfie Marriott on loan from South Shields, subject to FA approval.

Alfie is considered a major prospect by the Mariners and made his debut for the first team this season in the FA Trophy against Warrington.

He was also part of the South Shields FC Under-18s team which reached the first round of the FA Youth Cup this season.

He joins us on loan in order to further develop his experience and will add depth and competition to the Stan squad as we move through the second half of the season.

On the signing, manager Dean Nicholson said: “We are delighted with this one. Alfie is a lad we have monitored for the last year or two, so we are excited to get him in with the lads and watch him improve us between now and the end of the season.”

We would like to thank South Shields for their help and assistance in getting this deal done.

Welcome to the Stan, Alfie! ⚫️⚪️
