Month: December 2025

Dan Capewell is the new Stan captain!

Heaton Stannington are delighted to confirm that Dan Capewell has been appointed the new Club Captain.

The towering centre back joined the club in September 2024 and has gone on to make 58 starts and two substitute appearances, scoring six goals, the most recent of which coming in our away game at Hallam where he wore the captain’s armband for the Stan for the first time.

Heaton Stan manager Dean Nicholson had this to say about his decision to appoint Dan as the new Club Captain:

“I’m delighted to name Dan as club captain. He’s been brilliant on and off the field and a real leader at the club. His professionalism, leadership and character really shines through in the dressing room, and every time we train and play, so it’s absolutely deserved. I look forward to seeing him for his next hundred games with the armband on.”

JJ Chrisp Loan Extended

JJ Chrisp’s loan has been extended from the initial 28 days, until the end of the season.

We are delighted with the impact JJ has had and are pleased to secure his services for a longer period of time.

The original loan started in early November, with JJ having made three starts throughout the month, coinciding with The Stan recording two wins and one draw. He scored a late equaliser in our 1-1 draw with Silsden, and was subsequently awarded Man of the Match.

We would like to thank Dunston for their assistance and support with this loan deal.

Stan vs Grimsby Borough Rearranged – Free Entry!

The abandoned match between Heaton Stan and Grimsby Borough has now been rearranged.

Originally scheduled for Saturday 29th November, the game was abandoned in the 24th minute, with The Stan 1-0 up, after the surface was deemed unplayable thanks to a deluge of rain.

The rescheduled fixture will now take place under the lights at The Willow Park, on Wednesday 10th December, kicking off at 19:45.

To thank fans for their incredible support throughout the season so far, and particularly during such bad weather at the Grimsby game, entry on the night will be FREE, with everyone still needing to pass through the turnstile on their way into the ground.

Whet your appetite for the rematch, by reading the match report and viewing our photo gallery of the washout at the weekend:

Heaton Stannington 1-0 Grimsby Borough (Match Abandoned)
Pitching In Northern Premier League East

Grimsby made the long trip to Tyneside which turned out to be a short & wet visit. The Stan started the day in 7th place in the league & 1 point off a play-off place, but it ended in a wash out. The forecasted torrential rain was late in arriving but was well & truly under way by kick off & although there was early excitement with the Stan scoring & the visitors missing a penalty, the referee decided after 24 minutes that the pitch was now waterlogged & unplayable. There were 3 changes from last Saturday’s win at Hallam, with Milburn, Stephenson & Errington replacing Robson, Chater & Lamb. New signing Daniel Johnson was on the bench.

The match started in torrential rain although both teams tried to attack & in the 2nd minute the Grimsby keeper had to save a Stephenson effort. 4 minutes later & a Grimsby effort was easily caught by Gordon. A Stan attack was then cleared as the rain continued to get heavier & the quickly darkening sky had resulted in the floodlights being put on early. Pearson had a weak shot in the 10th minute although 2 minutes later he broke forward &, with only the visiting keeper to beat, he shot wide when he should have scored. Almost immediately after, the Stan won a corner & from it Shepherd headed into the net at the back post in the 13th minute to make it 1-0 to the Stan. The Stan kept the pressure on & Grimsby had to clear 2 attacks in the 15th minute. In the 20th minute, a Grimsby player advanced into the Stan box & was pushed. The resulting penalty in the 21st minute saw Grimsby’s Southwell beat Gordon but the ball hit the left post & the ball went back out to the edge of the 6-yard box & was cleared by a Stan player. Play did not resume as the referee invited the team managers onto the pitch to presumably discuss the state of the pitch. The crowd seemed to anticipate the next decision as in the 24th minute the referee officially abandoned the match with the Stan winning.

So dreadful conditions both underfoot & for the 261 brave fans in attendance led to the game being abandoned. Hopefully the rain stops & the flooding recedes by next Saturday when the Stan host Brighouse Town.

Stan Team: Gordon; Milburn; Chrisp; Evans; Capewell; Shepherd; Hopper; Walker; Pearson; Stephenson; Errington. No cards. Subs not used: Johnson; Lamb; Storey; Beattie; Chater. Attendance 261
